One Step At A Time

by Kevin Sinclair

I've been walking the streets now
For so long I just can't tell
Feet are sore after climbing that hill
And I'm definitely not feeling well
Got to stop and have a rest otherwise
I won't be able to continue on
Been here for so long now
Just wishing this scenery was gone.

Seems like ten thousand miles
Each step more painful that the last
Where are you going today
And what is it that you have passed
Any road will take me there
As I haven't a goal in mind
What are you looking for
What is it that you hope to find?

One step at a time you said
Slowly but surely is the way
Tell me that there's more than this
And that there won't be more to pay.

Set off with lofty ambitions in mind
Knew that the road would be hard
Somewhere I lost sight of the goal
And I never received your card
Don't know where I'm going
Can't remember where I've been
Lonely with longing in my heart
Do you know what I have seen.

Yesterday I vowed that things would change
The blisters would heal for sure
Today things are no different
As I've come back begging for more
One foot in front of the other
It's forever onward I must go
Somewhere hope still burns bright
I just can't let it come out on show.
