Looking For Simple Joys

by Kevin Sinclair

Looking for simple joys in a dull existence
In a world of alienation and despair
Routines run to a carefully designed time schedule
Self-expression is not encouraged to prosper
Bogged down in a rut of silly man-made rules
Where every man is labeled and categorised
Everyone is crying out for justice
But is prevention better than cure?

The joy held in a smile
Reaches right to the heart
Expressing warmth of friendship
Not based on expectations.

The caring touch of hands
Brings warmth and peace
Sharing a love so precious
Based on acceptance.

The sharing of inner feelings
In honest communication
Gives an identity
Based on understanding.

Looking for simple joys in a dull existence
In a world of alienation and despair
Progress is measured by productivity
With complete disregard for the individual man
Love is a word that's lost it's meaning
Material gains are all that are considered
Do we have to keep up with the Jones's?
