"Self Help Books" the sign said
While I gave a cheeky grin
I may be searching for answers
While leading a life of sin
Can words in a book
Make a difference in my life
Straighten out the thought patterns
And keep me out of strife
Or are they merely distractions
Full of empty promises and lies
Books don't have ears so
How can they understand my cries?
Is there meaning to life?
What is the reality now?
Look inside yourself
Then you'll find out how.
Flicked through the pages slowly
But just glanced at the words
It all seemed so familiar
A repeat of what I have heard
Don't need no painful reminders
Of a life that is in decay
Just looking for sweet inspiration
Need some joy in my day
Don't give me your false hopes
Nothing is ever for free
Just let me look in the mirror
And ask "who am I meant to be?"
Is there a pattern to life?
Can we see clearly now?
Look inside yourself
Then you'll find out how.
Another day begins the same
A fresh page on which to write
It's the magic of a sunrise
That clears away the night
If only I could wake up
And begin life anew
Would I make the same mistakes
Would I be one of the lucky few
With a destination to guide me
Enjoying the journey I am on
Knowing nothing can stop me
Until this life is gone.
