Destroying The Sweetness

by Kevin Sinclair

I saw her standing there
So beautiful
I saw the fullness and richness
So beautiful
I listened to her speak
The tender words she said
She reminded me of
Someone that I once knew
Who was ready to blossom
But someone crushed the bud
Destroying the sweetness of the fruit.

I saw her lying there
So painful
I saw the anguish on her face
So painful
I listened to her speak
"I wish they had killed me"
Was all she could say
She was someone that I once knew
Who was ready to blossom
But someone crushed the bud
Destroying the sweetness of the fruit.

There are no words that can be found
To describe the expressionless horror
I saw on her face that day
The body would heal
But the sweetness of the fruit
Was gone.

I saw her standing there
So beautiful
Full of tenderness and joy
So beautiful
I wanted to say much
But all I said was "be careful"
As she reminded me of
Someone that I once knew
Who was ready to blossom
But someone crushed the bud
Destroying the sweetness of the fruit.
