Now, how do you make buyers sit up and take notice? How do you get them excited about what you're offering? You have to pull the trigger. There is at least one trigger for every product or service on the market today. Finding it is the hard part. Once you determine what will set your customers in motion, you've won half the battle. This was the case with ForecastWatch.com. With a new site, the owner of ForecastWatch.com (Jeff) was unsure of what to do with the copy in order to connect with his site visitors and cause them to take the action he wanted them to take. Not to mention, Jeff wanted to rank highly with the engines as well, so search engine optimization (SEO) had to be taken into consideration, along with the selling aspects of the copy. The Problem The only real problem was finding the right trigger. The original site had little to no usable copy. That's not an insult; it's the truth. Jeff knew he needed help from a professional copywriter, so he spent little time on the site content. The Solution To determine the most powerful trigger, I took a look at all the segments of ForecastWatch.com's audience. It was broken down into three distinct types of customers. They were all interested in the most reliable weather forecasts possible, but for three very different reasons. One group was made up of meteorologists. Their obvious interest was in being able to provide the most accurate forecasts to their viewers and listeners. A second group was compiled of weather risk managers. It is the job of these professionals to accurately assess weather for industries such as the stock exchange, construction, transportation, national defense and more. The last group needed weather forecast accuracy for personal reasons, usually as a hobby or for sports reasons (coaches, etc.). While the last group was primarily interested in the weather as amateurs, the first two segments (meteorologists and weather-risk managers) have a lot on the line when it comes to weather forecast accuracy. Their reputations and their jobs are on the line. And that's the trigger! I put it right up front in
the headline, which read: ForecastWatch.com The headline hit the nail on the head. It got the attention of weather professionals, was of great interest to hobbyists and included part of one of Jeff's keyphrases. The last word in the headline (weather) tied into the first sentence of the copy and, thus, created a keyphrase. Keep in mind that engines don't read spaces or line breaks or punctuation within the copy, so having one word of a keyphrase in the headline and the remainder of the keyphrase in the first sentence of the copy is an excellent way to make the copy flow and keep in line with SEO protocol. Now, the task would be to keep that same emotional twist and energy throughout the copy. With the old copy, Jeff had no rankings with the engines for his chosen keyphrases, so the optimization of the copy needed to give him a presence. The Rewrite In the opening paragraph, I touted the praises of weather professionals, letting them know their expertise was recognized and appreciated. I also used one keyphrase twice and the second keyphrase once. In addition, I used the individual word "weather" and substituted "specialist" for "risk manager" in some instances to add to the flow and give a well-rounded environment for the spiders and bots. Next, I provided a good overview of what ForecastWatch.com offered. Again, a keyphrase was used in the headline (because it worked for both the visitors and the engines, not strictly for SEO purposes), and a keyphrase was used in the paragraph. Finally, the copy was broken out into segments that targeted specific individuals. This gave them precise information on what benefits ForecastWatch.com offered them. Boxes for meteorologists, weather risk managers and weather enthusiasts were created. Within the copy for each block and again in the anchor text for links to internal pages, keyphrases were used where appropriate. The Results I always like to let the customer take over in this section. Here's what Jeff had to say about the rewrite of his home-page copy. "Traffic has steadily increased, and I've gotten a lot of leads and my largest non-weather-company business customer from Internet search. The rewrite helped me with more than just the website. It helped me to define my business goals and to articulate them in other marketing materials as well." In addition, rankings continue to rise with current positioning in the top five for one of his keyphrases. Take the time to do a little research. Put yourself in your customers’ place. The ads are taken from their Adwords Program, and what is shown on the page relates to the content or the theme of that particular page. For example, a page about dogs would rotate ads for pet-related products and services. Before you decide it must be pretty simple to just throw some Google ads on your pages and go lay on a beach somewhere while the money rolls in, think again. There really is an art and a "science" to optimizing your website to work well with the advertisements. Remember, you don't get paid unless people click, so before you just plaster the ads in any old space here are some tips to consider straight from Google and other online resources. 1) Horizontal display of 4 image ads: I found this tip on a forum. There's been some talk that placing a horizontal row of images right above a leaderboard ad format works very well for drawing attention and increasing click thrus. For more on this read the thread yourself at http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum89/7961.htm 2) Blend: You don't want the ads to "intrude" on your content, rather make them "blend" as if they are part of your content. 3) Placement: Above the fold placement is better for maximum eye attention. Visualize the monitor as a piece of paper and cut it in half horizontally. Try to place your ads in the top section and to the left. 4) Wider: Per Google, a wider footprint is better then taller; maybe because it can hold more content and make it easier to read without dropping down line after line. Google claims the most effective sizes for click thrus are 326X280, 300X250 (inline rectangle), 160X600 (wide skyscraper). 5) More is Better: To generate more revenue, put ads on every single page of your site -- if it works for your set up. This will result in more ad views and more chances for actual click thrus. 6) Multiple Ad Units: Try putting more than one ad unit on a page. Google allows 3 ad units maximum on any one page of your site. 7) Colors: When choosing colors for your ad layouts, try to pick ones that complement and go with your web pages. If you'd like to keep it fresh, you can select up to four rotating color palettes when generating your ad code. This may help keep your site's frequent visitors from "tuning out" your ads. 8) Google Search: Google offers a "search box" function you can add to your site, which will give you yet another opportunity to generate income. If they click on any of the ads on the "search results" page you'll earn money. 9) Link Units: Another ad format you can add to your site is called "link units." These are smaller text ads ranging in six sizes from 120X90 pix to 728X15 pixels. You can add one link unit to the already allowed 3 ad units per page, giving you a maximum of four ad units on a page. Again, it gives you another opportunity for click thrus. Make sure you're utilizing the image format as this additional option opens up more advertising opportunities for your site. Google will show image ads when they have a higher value to you then the normal text ad units would. By replacing these ads with your own ads, perhaps for affiliate programs you may be involved with, you'll have more chances of earning some revenue instead of giving it away to Google. You'll want to test different ad formats, colors and placements to find out what works best with your site. There is no one size fits all so use this information as a general guideline for tweaking your pages. 13) Section Targeting: By adding special tags you're assisting Google in knowing where the "real content" is on your pages which results in more targeted ads and hopefully higher click thru rates for you. Even today's “Einsteins” are now seen by neuroscientists as ordinary people who have simply consciously developed "extraordinary" mental powers and focus. **How Genius is Developed We do not often think of the mind as a tool whose powers can be developed on such a dramatic level. But the good news is -- there are definite, proven-effective ways to develop your brain's capacity for genius-level performance. Modern neuroscientists claim that genius-level mental functioning is primarily all about *connections.* Which connections? The ever-changing maze of interconnections among your neurons (brain cells.) The scientific evidence is this: The more you stimulate and challenge your brain, the more connections it is forced to create so that your neurons can communicate with each other. It really is primarily that simple. **Albert Einstein’s Secret As a child, Albert Einstein was seriously dyslexic and had great difficulty with both speech and reading. He was actually expelled from high school and flunked his first college entrance exam, but finally managed to complete his BA degree. He then took lowly job in the Swiss patent office. But then when he was only 26, he published his Special Theory of Relativity. And sixteen years later he won a Nobel Prize. Dr. Thomas Harvey, a pathologist on duty at Princeton Hospital when Einstein died in 1955, removed Einstein's brain. Harvey studied it under a microscope over a 40-year period, but never found any differences from so-called normal brains. Then in the early 1980s Dr Marian Diamond, a neuro-anatomist at the University of California at Berkeley, made some interesting discoveries. Her findings about brains in general revolutionized our ideas about what genius really is. Diamond placed a group of rats in a very stimulating environment with ladders, swings, treadmills, and "rat toys." She then confined a “control” group of rats to bare cages. The rats in the stimulating environment lived to advanced ages (the equivalent of 90 for mankind). But even more remarkable, Diamond found their brains had grown an amazing number of new connections between their neurons. She had discovered the first “hard evidence” that higher intelligence could be created through mentally-stimulating exercise. And then when she examined sections of Einstein's brain, she made the remarkable discovery that it WAS different from the "average" brain in one way. Like her super-stimulated rats, Einstein's brain also had an unusually high number of experience-based neural "interconnections." **Mental Sharpness and Aging Now your brain does not replace it's neurons (brain cells) like the way your body replaces dead skin, bone or muscle cells. Researchers studied a group of 800 older nuns, and came up with even more proof of the benefits of mental stimulation. Those nuns who were constantly learning new things, or playing mind stimulating games and crossword puzzles, were less likely to show symptoms of Alzheimer's -- compared to the less mentally active nuns. Our brains can continue to grow in complexity right up to a very advanced age! Each challenge you present to your brain causes immediate physical changes – no matter what your age. **A Plan of Action Your mental inter-neural connections can potentially increase in number and complexity throughout life.
