Article Grab a Top Level Domain Name By Kevin Sinclair With the recent explosion in the availability of website domain name suffixes (such as .eu, .ws, .cc and so on) it's never been easier to grab a domain name that is directly related to the subject matter of your site. For example, if you want to create a site about Persian Cats, it would make sense to use a domain name including the phrase "persiancat". Unfortunately, however, other people have had the same idea previously, so persiancat.com is no longer available, nor is persiancat.net, .org, .biz or any other simple domain name with a top level suffix. Furthermore, it is a fact that most people who are searching on the net are going to give first priority to sites with top level domain names, such as a .com or a .net. At least partially, this is simply a function of these being the original suffixes, and therefore the average surfer perhaps believes that they have more credibility and authority. This is especially critical if your website is selling or promoting your business or products, as these factors translate into "trustworthiness" in this situation. Simply put, a top level domain name is one of your strongest sales tools. Many people also believe that search engines will give weight to your domain name when considering your site for that all important search engine ranking. In this case, there needs to be some clear relationship between your domain name and site subject, to give you any chance of featuring when people search using Google or Yahoo. So, what can you do? Well, here's a couple of very simple tips that may help you to bag that all important top level domain name for your site. First, try a plural version of your key phrase, rather than the singular version. So, in the example above, you might check out the availability of top level names using persiancats, rather than persiancat. Truth be told, however, used on its own, this tactic is a bit too obvious, and more often than not, when the singular version of a phrase has gone, then so has the plural. The second little trick is, however, far more effective and well worth trying if you are looking for a top level name for your site. The trick is - numbers! Not numbers at the beginning of the domain address - that's really "old hat" and you only have to look at a list of expired domains to see how many owners of such addresses just allow them to die. Why? Because they don't work particularly well with either search engines or with real people - and something like "0000persiancats.com" just looks plain silly! So, that's not likely to be of much benefit to your site. But, numbers in the "body" of the domain name itself, especially the numbers 2 and 4, very possibly will be. Why? Well, the number 2 is a simple substitute for the word "to" and 4 can be read as "for". Now, tie that in with one other little substitution trick - take the word "you" and substitute the letter "u" - and finding a good top level domain name that still relates very closely to the site subject matter becomes a relatively simple matter. Let's take our persiancats example to demonstrate how effective a strategy this can be. Using all three of the highlighted tricks, try searching for "persiancats2u.com" and "persiancats4u.com". Still available? If not, how about "persiancat4us.com" or "persiancat4me.com"? Even if all of these are now taken, all it needs is a bit of imagination to create a ".com" domain name that relates directly to your subject matter. Article Article Writing for the Terrified By Kevin Sinclair Writing and submitting articles is an effective marketing strategy to deliver targeted visitors, increase your rankings and boost sales. However, it is easy to equate article writing with onerous tasks such as writing high school or university essays. The memories of the pain involved in this form of writing can take time to fade away. The good news is that after learning a few simple steps, writing your own articles isn't as hard as it appears. One of the biggest hurdles most new writers face is finding ideas to write about. The easiest way to begin is to write about things you are interested in and preferably passionate about. You already have knowledge in these areas which can be shared with others. It is easy to under-estimate your own abilities in areas you are experienced in. Talented people are often surprised by the level of questions novices ask (it is important to remember that there is no such thing as a stupid question - only stupid answers). Once you have decided on a general area, a good way to narrow the topic down is to focus on the problems that people have. Typically, people read articles because they want to be entertained or they want information. Writing entertaining articles is a particular and more difficult skill. However, writing informative articles can be as simple as sharing tips that you have learned. A guiding principle is to expect the readers to be looking for "What's in it for me". You may already know the common problems that people have in the particular field, but if not, a good source of information is to look at related online forums and note the most common questions asked. If you don't have all the answers a small bit of research can assist. Often the answers are readily available with a Google search which the readers could do themselves. However, you are adding value and convenience by providing a range of answers in a single document. Most people don't like to read large documents from the Web, so unlike long essays, articles tend to be around 400 words long. If you break the article into an introduction, a small number of sub-headings and a conclusion you may only have to write about 50 words in each section. The sub-headings may be for authoring purposes only, but if they are relevant they can be left in the final article. The first draft should be for your eyes only. Don't try to produce a final copy as you write. It tends to be much quicker to get your thoughts down and come back to edit later. The final step in the writing process is to proofread your article making sure that the writing flows and would be interesting to the reader. Ask yourself, 'does the article provide information the potential reader is looking for? It can also be helpful to have someone else proofread the article. This is also the time to remove spelling and grammatical errors. If you still have problems writing you may want to do a search for 'article writing software'. There are many packages around which can make the process easier. Similarly, there are numerous e-books available on the topic and many of them are available for free. Once you have written your article you may want to add it to your own website as an item that search engines love - a piece of original content. If you add an 'About the Author' section with a link to your website, you can also submit it to article directories. As other websites publish your article you receive another thing that search engines look for, one-way back links. Article submission can be a tedious process, but software and websites that can submit to multiple directories in one go exist to make the job much easier. After writing your first few articles you will find it is not as daunting as it first appears. This is highly moral and ethical and will mostly get us further and allow us to sleep nights and feel good about ourselves. Agreed? What would be your reaction if I was to say although the above idea is very important it may also be a limitation when adhered to in a completely rigid way? Some of us may at some time, have been asked to give an opinion on something. We know deep down that to give the most honest opinion that we have will be at the very least undiplomatic and in the worst case, will sound like an overt criticism. So, this is one instance where we may decide to act in a flexible way. There is also the teaching from many directions about visualizing what you would like to have in your life. From your current vantage point this may seem like sheer heresy to even consider anything else other than what your five senses tell you already exist in your physical reality. When you are visualizing are you 'seeing' the truth? When Michelangelo looked at the hunk of marble that was to become one of his delightful creations he was 'seeing' another truth; that of his completed sculpture. Any situation where there is creativity involved such as art, invention or architectural work, requires the use of the creative imagination. How would it be if the architect looked at a vacant block of land and said, "No! I cannot see anything there but a pile of rocks and rubble"? No building would ever be built, nor would the Angel of Michelangelo have come to fruition if 'the truth' was slavishly adhered to. How many times have you not seen a person or place for a number of years and held the vision or judgment of what they were like when you last saw them? You meet them again or revisit the area and find the person or place completely different from 'the truth' that you were holding in your mind? So, we have yet another area where the truth can, or needs to be, flexible for peace and sanity. Take, for instance, an arborist, an artist and a biologist viewing a particular tree. Same tree and you will be given three different viewpoints each with their own validity within the framework or construct of the perceiver. Furthermore, when we hold a judgment of another we tend to lock them in to that particular way of our thinking. This is a limitation for them and especially for ourselves, as we will react to them as they were when we made the judgment rather than respond to them as they are now. In relationships this is called calibrated behavior. Families can exhibit this behavior when they act from the past with each other rather than letting go of this and responding without judgment to what is happening now. So, what does one do then? Most of us probably have the flexibility to see more than one point of view and certainly avoid being locked into the past. This means in all relationships, business and social. Accept the obvious to the five senses and extrapolate from there to the possible. By doing this, you will open yourself to the marvellous opportunities of the Universe and Being. When we are having any sort of interaction with another person or group, being aware of where our responses are coming from is a great way of being powerful. This will keep the relationship on a much healthier footing than if we allow ourselves to be stuck in past programming. It will most likely lead to easier resolution of any differences of opinion.
