Article – Yahoo Publisher Network (YPN), Adsense, And Other PPC Oriented Websites. Where To Start?

Anywhere you turn today you’ll find websites shouting at you about the millions you can make from Google’s Adsense, Yahoo Publisher Network, or some other PPC program. Self proclaimed Guru’s with sales pages spouting riches beyond your wildest dreams if you’ll only shell out $147 for their ‘secret’.

But is there really a ‘secret’ method to making a living online? Not if you take a look at what the serious earners are doing. I’m not talking about the above mentioned, so called ‘Gurus’, I’m talking about the big boys and girls. Men and Women that are way too busy to tell you how they are making a fortune. What are they busy doing you might ask? They’re building websites. Lots of them. Quietly, in the background, they are making millions. 

So before you bill that $147 to the old Mastercard, let’s talk about a plan that might actually work for you. 

So where to begin? Why at the beginning of course. Let’s assume that you’re totally new to the whole concept of an online business. Let’s build your Adsense or other PPC website from scratch.

1. Before you do anything, you must decide on what KIND of website you’d like to have. Is it going to be an informational site? Something fun, like a joke site? Or maybe centered around a hobby or business you have offline? Whatever you decide on, please, make it something you’re interested in. If you build a site strictly because someone told you that a site centered around ‘web hosting’ will make you the most money, you’ll be very disappointed in the long run. The reason is simple. Do you know anything about ‘web hosting’? Does it interest you enough to do any kind of research on it? If not then you’re going to have one heck of a tough time when it comes to actually promoting your site and getting surfers to it. Yes, it can be done, but it’s a lot easier if you pick something you’re at least familiar with.

2. A domain name. Your WWW address on the web. ( http://www.thegiftedone.com is one of mine btw) There are many different schools of thought when it comes to domain names, so I won’t go into it in this article. Let’s just say that you should pick a domain that you like, that at least in some way pertains to your topic. Don’t register Bizoooooogle.com and plan on making it into an empire. Register something that reflects the topic of your website.

3. A website. Yes, the actual website must exist. So here’s where some work or some money might come into play. If you have the technical skills, then obviously, build it yourself. If you don’t, then you’re going to have to hire someone to build it for you. Might I suggest that you contact me for such services: websiteinfo@affiliatewebsitedesign.com, shameless plug I know, but I’ve built hundreds of PPC oriented websites for people, and I can help you too.

But if you want to be successful with Adsense or Yahoo Publisher, then just ANY website won’t do. You’re going to have to do several things. The main focus is that the website must be targeted and optimized for your target. If you’re building a site focused on ‘Caribbean Travel’ then you really don’t want information on the local Motel 6. When building your website, stay on target, stay on the topic, it will pay off in the long run.

So now. Your website is done. Online. Looks great. When do the millions of dollars start rolling in? I know this sounds crazy, but I get asked questions like this every day. People just assume that as soon as their new website is up, the work is done. But I must tell you, at this point it hasn’t even started. Let me break this to you gently…. All your shiny new website is… drum roll please…. It’s an AD. Yes, it’s simply a big advertisement, put up to attract visitors who in turn click your Adsense links, or Yahoo Publisher links, or some other PPC.

The point is this. Your website is worth nothing if you choose not to PROMOTE your website/ad. Contrary to what many of the ‘Gurus’ say, you cannot just sit back and wait for that number one listing in Google to come thru. You MUST promote.

Article – Google's Secret Domain Name Registration Policy

I was reading a forum post by Willie Crawford who is one of my favorite Internet marketers. Willie brought up a point that Google may favor ranking domains that have longer registration periods. His source, a domain name registrar, stated the following:

"As part of Google's recent patent application, Google made apparent its efforts to wipe out search engine spam, stating:

'Valuable (legitimate) domains are often paid for several years in advance, while doorway (illegitimate) domains rarely are used for more than a year. Therefore, the date when a domain expires in the future can be used as a factor in predicting the legitimacy of a domain and, thus, the documents associated therewith.'

Domains registered for longer periods give the indication, true or not, that their owner is legitimate. Google uses a domain's length of registration when indexing and ranking a Web site for inclusion in their organic search results.

To prove to everyone that your site is the real deal, register for more than one year and increase your chances of boosting your search ranking on Google."

Some domain name registrars are inclined to promote this position because it may motivate their customers to increase the terms of their domain registration, thereby increasing the profits of the registrar.

That being said, I can also understand Google and other search engines considering the term of a domain registration as a small part of their algorithm used to determine free rankings of a website in their search engine. It is the job of every search engine to provide the most relevant search results possible and it is often the website owners who have a long-term mindset that are providing the most value to their visitors.

Aside from the search engines, I do know that some website visitors also check how long a domain is registered as part of their own personal due diligence to decide if they want to do business with a company or not. Think about it... If you are providing a service and your potential customer goes to http://www.whois.net and finds out that your domain expires in less than a year, they might think you're a "fly-by-night" company that won't be there when they need you and decide not to do business with you.

All in all, I believe it's important to have a long-term mindset when building your Internet business. If it helps you even slightly to get a better search engine ranking or increase the trust that potential customers have in your website, registering a domain name for a few extra years is a sound investment.

Inspired by this insight myself, I just added 5 additional years of registration do my Dotcomology.com domain which is now currently set to expire in the year 2012. I plan to be around until then and hopefully much longer. What about you?

Article – 9 Proven Strategies to… Achieve Uncommon Success

There are nine proven strategies highly successful people have always used to overcome obstacles to their goals. Properly applied, these same principles can also serve as a catalyst for your success. Here they are:

1. Get Aligned

It is important to first clearly define exactly what you are passionate about. Only passion fires up the kind of energy you need when you hit those inevitable bumps in the road on the way to success.

2. Clarify Your Priorities

Many people try to fit their dreams into their life -- complaining there are not enough hours in the day to make it happen. If you want your dream to become a reality, make it a priority. Otherwise it will never be more than a pipe dream, and you are just setting yourself up for disappointment.

Achieving a dream requires more than just setting a goal -- it requires a realistic plan of action to get you on target and into motion. Create a goal plan that fits the reality of your life.

3. Don’t Force It

Do not try to force something that is not happening. Go for the type of inspired, joyful action that comes with pursuing a goal that is fully aligned with your dreams. This will encourage everything to flow along easily, and without unnecessary effort.

Contrast this to forcing yourself to take an action you really do not want to take. Most likely this will take you twice as long, and you’ll bump up against obstacles. Whenever possible swim with the current, not against it. And stick to your goal plan.

4. Manage your Stress

Stress throws us off balance and into an older, less productive portion of our brain. It is intended to prepare you to fight or run -- not to successfully achieve a goal (unless that goal is to escape a tiger). And remember this: We now have clear evidence that stress actually kills brain cells. And unlike your skin and muscles, your body cannot create replacement brain cells. If you want more success and achievement in your life, stress management is NOT optional.

5. Build your Strengths

Success comes easier and more quickly when you focus on your strengths-- and delegate in those areas where you are less capable. Your natural talents are those things you do so easily and naturally -- you think nothing of it. And, they contain the seeds of your greatest potential accomplishments.

It's very important to identify and work on your natural talents and abilities. This is where self knowledge pays off in big dollars and accomplishments.

6. Disarm your Inner Saboteur

Fear of failure is the biggest internal fear that people will ever have to face. It is why so many ideas never get beyond the idea stage … and why projects are started and never finished.

It is okay to have these feelings, but it is important to identify them as what they are. Most fears of failure go all the way back to childhood, and are not even accurate for who you are today. Drag them up into the daylight and find a way to face them head on.

7. Develop Resilience

The truth is -- you are going to have setbacks along the way. This is inevitable. But often if you look closely, you will find these setbacks are directly related to your innermost thoughts, fears and beliefs. This is because we create what we focus on, including those things we do not want.

Do not get stopped by these bumps in the road. Learn from them. As you work through them you will become the person you need to be to create your dreams. And along the way, be sure to refine your stress management skills. This is an essential key to developing resilience. 

8. Use the Power of Visualization

The ability to physically action begins in the mind. That is why all great golfers, tennis players, basketball players, dancers, and even speakers and authors mentally visualize themselves performing or achieving successfully.

An experiment conducted by Aussie psychologist Alan Richardson reported a 23% performance improvement among people who visualized every day for 20 days. Richardson found that the most effective visualization occurs when the visualizer feels and sees what he is doing.

9. Apply the Power of Focus

The ability to achieve anything in your life really starts and ends with one skill -- the ability to focus! This skill alone marks the difference between those who dream of achieving -- and those who actually achieve! Develop and use the power of mental focus, and you can literally remold yourself (and your business or professional life).
