Generally, they're PDF products packaged in what is known as an "ebook format". Years ago another popular option was .exe but due to viruses and their incompatibility with the Mac they have lost a lot of their popularity. An easy way to start your own web business with low start up costs is to purchase ebooks with what is known as "resale rights". But what are resale rights? Are they the same as "Master Resale Rights"? Ebooks often come with different types of rights. Translation: The rights assigned tell you how the information can be used, and since there are so many different varieties, it's important that you understand them. Here's my understanding of the various rights. 1) Resell Rights: When you purchase an ebook with resell rights that means you can sell it and keep all of the profits. One thing you can't do is pass these rights onto the person who buys the ebook from you. Generally they come with a canned "sales letter" in HTML format to use in your promotional efforts. Many times the sales copy is very good and other times you may want to edit it. A "suggested" sales price is often included and if the license permits you can sometimes use them as bonus items and give them away with other products you may be selling. If you don't want to purchase re sellable ebooks one at a time to build your collection there are many "resell rights" membership sites that you can join and pay a one time fee to download all of the ebooks you like. 2) GiveAway Rights: This means exactly what it says. You can download these free ebooks and give them away from your own website or to your ezine subscribers. Just make sure you upload them to your own server first. People don't take kindly upon your using their download link and putting a load on their servers. It's just the right thing to do. If you do a search at any of the free ebook directories online you'll find plenty of material you can download. An excellent directory is http://free-ebooks.net 3) Branded Giveaway Rights: The same as above but the free ebook you download will come with a special "branding" software that allows you to add your name and url and sometimes an affiliate link. If it's an affiliate program you're involved with you'll make money as the ebook circulates the net and people click on your branded link and buy the product or service advertised in the ebook. 4) Master Resell Rights: the "grand daddy" of resell rights. When you purchase the ebook/ report you can sell the product and keep all of the profits and also give the rights to resell it to those who purchase the ebook from you. 5) Private Label Rights: This one is big right now. Everywhere you turn you'll see the opportunity to purchase "private label rights". This type of rights is very different then the others. Here once you purchase the ebook or articles, you can modify it anyway you like, re-package it, even add your name as the author. With everyone clamoring for content for the search engine spiders, this is a very popular trend right now. The possibilities are endless with what you can do with the information you purchase. Make sure when purchasing ebooks or articles with rights, that you're getting them from a trustworthy source. You want to make sure they have the rights to give you the rights in the first place. You'll also want to read over the "license" carefully and make sure you understand exactly what you are purchasing and how you can use it. For example you don't want to give away "master resell rights" if you only have "resell rights". Information products are a great way to make money on the Internet. But people do. It is the packaging that sells it. The title and design of the cover will make all the difference in its appeal. You can do the same to develop a big booming business with something called BRANDING. Branding is the immediately recognizable "ah-ha there it is!" That is what you want in your product and especially your business. People may see it as in a picture, or hear it in a phrase that identifies the product or service as the one that focuses on them and their desires. Upon entering the brain through the eyes, ears, or both, good feelings are triggered and drug-like chemical reactions in the body flood all nerve receptors with desire for the product. Branding is a form of mesmerism by easy memorization to your prospects, who then become customers because when they go to buy the product they think of you. You get famous through branding. The brand is you, how you get known, how you get success, and how you will get to charge more for what you have or do. The jingle they cannot get out of their heads screams at them to buy and try your product. It is a response, not a choice, because people know what they know, and through branding what they know is your product. Branding makes your product sexy, seductive, irresistible, and "must have." Things such as USP (Unique Selling Proposition or Unique Selling Point or Unique Selling Position or Unique Selling Presentation) also called UCA (Unique Competitive Advantage) distinguish you from your competitors. It's all about BRANDING! The brand, the symbol of your uniqueness, gives you the advantage by sticking in people's minds. Branding pushes you ahead of the pack. You want to hook and reel them in. Coming up with tactics for branding is your chance to be creative. Come up with an overwhelming benefit of your business above what other businesses have and make it catchy. Make it sing an opera, dance the twist, and sparkle like fireworks. This is what drives your marketing into the minds and hearts of your market. Be bold, be different, one-of-a-kind, outstanding, magnetic! Use branding to be what only you can be and people will buy when you fill their need. Here are some things people need: Satisfy any of these cravings once for your customer and you can add one product after another to your business and the customer will buy. It will be because YOU are the brand the customer has gotten to know with fondness and learned to trust. Get personal with customers and keep in contact. When Dave Thomas started doing commercials for his Wendy's Restaurants, the business revived from its slowdown because people could see what a likable guy he was. Take what you do and present it to the public over and over in advertising and promotion and prove it in performance to your buyer. Let's say your business fills the need in people to have what they want fast. Here are a couple successful slogans that went far to brand these companies. For Domino's Pizza - "30 minutes or it's free." For Federal Express - "When it absolutely, positively has to be there overnight." Such branding made an impact, made a reputation, and made sales. If you want to establish yourself in business, you can have no better strategy than branding. It is how cotton swabs become Q-tips, how tissue became Kleenex, how a copy became a Xerox. Branding is what makes franchises so successful. You pay a lot of money for a franchise because if you work at it, it is sure to work, because it is already branded. Yet whether you're selling ideas, your vision, yourself or your products or services, persuasion is often a matter of supplying shorthand ways of thinking about complicated problems, allowing people to quickly evaluate a complex situation and come to a decision. That's why stories, analogies, and metaphors work so well. As former General Electric CEO Jack Welsh said, "Simple messages travel faster, simple designs reach the market faster, and elimination of clutter allows faster decision making." Wyatt Technologies, a client of mine, manufactures light scattering equipment for measuring absolute molecular weight in polymers. It may require a Ph.D. to fully explain why their methodology is superior to their competition's. Many of their prospects and at least one of their consultants (me) couldn't understand it even from a Ph.D. But everyone could grasp the shorthand metaphor they came up with: "It's like using a speedometer to measure the speed of your car rather than an altimeter. The altimeter will do the job, roughly. If you're willing to do some complicated figuring. The speedometer gives you the exact speed immediately." Consider finding shorthand ways to sell your goals to yourself--to remind yourself of what you are doing and why you are doing it. So you can keep yourself motivated. Which means keeping yourself sold. Former San Diego Charger defensive tackle Norman Hand wore a pair of Miami Dolphin shorts under his Charger shorts. Hand was cut by the Dolphins. "Every time I'm tired," Hand said, "I raise up my Miami Dolphins shorts and they remind me." I once watched a top level executive completely demotivate an assistant with a few harsh, astonishingly ill-chosen words. I noticed he was wearing a pair of shoes that probably cost more than the assistant made in a month. "In your business," I asked him after the assistant left, "your shoes are more important than your attitude, right?" "No, of course not." "So what exactly do those expensive shoes do for your business?" "They HELP my attitude." "Good. Switch them on, will you?" Fortunately he laughed, and his mood lightened immediately. From that point on, he used to talk about switching on his shoes when he needed to adjust his attitude. Salespeople used to say they sold on a smile and a shoeshine. Nowadays too many executives, too many of all of us, are all shoeshine and no smile. We wouldn't think of wearing shoes that pinch and bind but we'll wear an attitude that chafes ourselves and everyone around us. You can change your attitude even quicker than you can change your shoes. That can change your entire day and the day of those that have to deal with you.
