You are interested in starting a home-based business. You also want to use the Internet for your work-at-home idea. However, you are not sure if you can make money online. To make matters worse, you are confused about what home-based business opportunity to pursue.

If this sounds like you, rest assured that money can be made online with a home-based business. You don't need to study for years until you can reap rewards. There are sound business concepts that have been taught and proven to be true by some of the most highly successful marketers in the world. What is the top sound principle that will ensure your success? It is choosing the right niche market.

You might be wondering what is a niche. A niche is simply a group of people with similar interests and needs. They are very passionate about their topic of interest. Think of a small pond packed with starving fish and you have the bait specific to their needs; they will like what you have to offer the best. This, in essence, is a niche.

Why a niche market? Well, unless you are a huge corporation with bottomless pockets, niche marketing is the way to go. You see most of the large corporations blow off niche markets because they are not trying to make an additional $1000 to $15000 per month like many home-based business entrepreneurs and other small business owners. They are seeking to make millions per month, which is good for you because you don't have to compete with those companies that have massive marketing budgets.

It really is easy to find potential customers in niche markets. Here are some examples:

Carpet Cleaner Business Owners
Restaurant Owners
Winter Camping Enthusiasts
Siamese Cat Owners
Dentists
Landscape Company Owners

You get the picture.

Before you decide which niche market to target for your home- based business, here are four important points to consider:

1. Is the market easily defined and reachable? Do you know where they hangout? What kind of trade journals or publications do they read? Do they have clubs or are members of particular organizations?

2. Is the market small enough that you will not have tons of competitors, but still large enough for you to make a good profit?

3. Does the market have the money to spend?

4. Does the group have an insane passion for their hobby or topic of interest? Do they eat, sleep, and breathe their hobby? Are they constantly seeking more information related to their subject? A great example of this would be golfers and NASCAR enthusiasts!

Doing research related to these questions will help you pick the perfect niche market for your home-based business.

As you think about starting a home-based business and what market to target, follow the above suggestions and you will be way ahead of many other home-based business opportunity seekers who want to start a work-at-home business.

Article – Small Business - An Overview

Small business is normally referred to a business on small scale set up by an individual or a group of individuals. In the United States the Small Business Act states that a small business concern is "one that is independently owned and operated and which is not dominant in its field of operation." [Source: United States Small Business Administration, web page - http://www.sba.gov/size/]

On the internet the term "small business" is often interchanged with "home based business" because the business owner operates from home or a small office. Generally small business owners look for revenue to supplement their other sources of income. Or, they earn enough to support their household with something to spare. Many small business owners are able to earn substantially more while managing their operations on small scale.

The growth of the internet has provided tremendous scope for the growth of small business. Every year tens of thousands of people are attracted because it is extremely easy to start a business on the internet without incurring much cost. Some of the more common types of small business on the internet are discussed below. Although there is negligible cost in starting many of them, the business owners end up spending considerable amounts trying to promote their business. Statistics of the last several years show that very small percentage of people involved in small business are able to earn a profit. But small business provides opportunities to earn huge amounts and serious players with the correct approach are able to take advantage of these opportunities.

There are numerous ways in which a small business can be set up on the internet. Some of the more common types are discussed below.

1. Affiliate Programs - They are by far the most common type of business preferred by small business owners. The business owners earn commission by selling or facilitating sales of products and services of other organizations. There are thousands of affiliate programs available. On the internet it is very simple to register with these programs. The registration is free for the majority of the programs. Therefore people desirous of making extra money are easily attracted by affiliate programs. After all there is hardly any risk involved in becoming an affiliate.

All affiliate programs do not maintain the same standard of efficiency and ethics. They vary in quality from excellent to extremely bad. Therefore the small business owner has to be very careful in selecting the affiliate programs he/she wants to get associated with.

2. Displaying Ads on Web Pages - Google Adsense has made display of contextual ads a major source of revenue. The business owner puts up ads such as Google Adsense on his/her web pages. When a visitor clicks on the displayed ads the business owner earns a commission. Normally the web pages will display not only ads but also affiliate and other links providing multiple streams of earnings.

3. Selling Own Products - Small business can be set up for selling the products prepared by the owner. The product could be in digital form or it could be a physical product. The business owner can also start an affiliate program to sell his/her own products. In many cases the products are not really prepared by the owner of the business. The products are made by someone else, but the business owner buys the right to sell the products as his/her own. This is particularly true of digital products.

4. On-Line Jobs - Plenty of on-line jobs are available for those who wish to offer their services. They get paid by number of jobs completed. There are many on-line jobs (where the completed jobs are submitted on-line) such as mail order jobs, typing jobs, transcription, writing articles as a ghost writer, designing websites, preparing sales pages etc., to name just a few.

5. On-Line Surveys - There are many organizations that conduct surveys for themselves or their clients. The business owner can register with these organizations. He/she can be invited to participate in the surveys when his/her profile is found suitable. Compensation for participation in surveys varies greatly. In many cases cash awards are given to selected people and selection is done by draw of lots. In some other cases all participants are paid by cash. Some organizations compensate by giving gifts to the participants.

6. Other Sources of Earning on the Net - There are many sources of revenue which are specific to the net. There are programs that pay their members for reading letters, or only for opening them. Auto surfing is another source of revenue in which payments are made for viewing certain minimum number of pages. The auto surfing programs do not guarantee payments. Therefore members can participate at their own risk.

These are some of the opportunities for small business on the net. But success does not come automatically or instantly. It takes time to build and grow a business, even the small business. Those who are prepared to put in persistent efforts and use the right mindset can expect to make a fortune from their business.

Article – Stop Procrastination and Start Living Your Dreams

Procrastination is almost a way of life for many people, but it's hard to know exactly why people procrastinate. When people procrastinate, they are usually putting off doing something that will be a benefit, but for some reason there is more energy put forth to put off the task than to do it. This is a very bad habit and is one reason many people do not achieve their dreams.

Procrastination is an easy way of putting off goals and dreams for another time; goals and dreams that you want to come true, but something is holding you back. There may be a subconscious fear of failure, or a fear of change that is stronger than the goal of success. If you want success badly enough you will face your fears and decide to start immediately doing those things you have put off for so long.

Here's the quickest way to get started:

First, make a list of all the things you need to do that you have been putting off, you probably have this "to do" list already drafted in your office. Then, go to a quiet place where you will not be interrupted for about 20 minutes. Go through each item on the list and write down your excuse(s) for not having completed the task already. Maybe there is a money problem, or you do not think you have enough education or the proper qualifications. Whatever it is, just write it down and do not worry about how it will be resolved right now.

Next, go through the list again and write down the benefits you currently enjoy because you are procrastinating on these tasks. Yes, you are receiving a benefit for not doing the task; otherwise you would have done it by now. For example, if you wrote down that you do not have enough education, then the benefit you are receiving right now by not getting an education is that you have more money than you would if you were spending it on school. Another benefit of this same item is that you have more time to do what you want, instead of spending it in school. Remember the old saying "time is money." Are you really making enough money in your current position to make it worth the time spent there?

Finally, look at all the reasons you have listed as excuses for procrastinating, and the benefits you are receiving. Do these still make sense? This is the time to sit down again and make a plan - a plan that you will stick to and not put off for any longer. Now is the time to make a "to do" list that you will actually do! First, while they are still in your thoughts, quickly write down a list of things you will do to make your dreams a reality. Then, go through the list again and put them in the order you will do them (example: Do you need to get a loan before you can go to college?) Also, write down the date that you will complete each item.

Now that you have your work cut out for you in a manageable way, go out and make your dreams come true!
