Article Is Time "Running Out" for You Too? By Kevin Sinclair For some people it doesn't seem to matter how long their day is. They just never seem to have enough time. The clock is ticking and it's ticking too fast for comfort. It feels like they have a million things to do, a couple thousand of which were actually due last week and every new task is urgent and can't wait... Sounds familiar? Well if it does you might be one of those people who just don't have a very good relationship with time. It is often a sign that you're not in control of your own day-planner. You may have some things on your to do list that you set out to accomplish, but anything and everything that you come across interferes with your plans. Someone or something else seems to be claiming your time to the extent that you never seem to get anything done. You might be asking yourself: "How can I possibly get everything done?" Good question. The answer is very simple: "You can't and you shouldn't want to". Wanting to get everything done is probably the main reason why so many people are short on time. They're trying to do too many things and fail to realize that there are only so many tasks that one person can accomplish in a day. Instead of focusing on getting everything done, focus on those things that really need to get done. Separating what's important from what's not important will help you prioritize your tasks. And once you've done this, just remember that priorities are in order. That means that when you're working on something with a high priority it is okay to turn down someone asking you to do something that has a lower priority. Learning to say "no is a huge time-saver. Of course you can also say "no" to yourself when you find yourself tempted to interrupt your work for another task that pops up. You will find that if you focus on the most important task that needs to get done during the day, the major things, you will probably have enough time left to fit in some of the minor things. Time is an area where we can be absolutely sure that everyone is treated equally. No matter where you're from or what your background is everybody has the same amount of hours in a day. The difference is in how we choose to spend those hours. And that is why some people are considered miracle workers while others never get anything accomplished. Perhaps you've heard the story of the business consultant giving this simple piece of advice to one of his clients. His client was a CEO of a large corporation who felt he and his management team wasnt performing to their best abilities. They just didn't seem to get the work done. The consultant listened intently for a while and then gave the following advice: "Every night before your head hits the pillow, take a piece of paper and write down the six most important tasks you must accomplish the next day. Write them down in the order of importance. Then the next day, it at all possible, start on the first task and don't move on to the next task until the first has been finished. This may not always be possible because sometimes the most important thing can be something that comes up later during the day. For instance your most important task may be a certain presentation that is scheduled to take place somewhere late in the afternoon. In that case you would move on to point number two. You wouldn't want to be sitting idle all day, right?" When the client asked for the price of this advice, he was told to simply put in into practice and then determine the value himself. After a certain period of time had past the client wired an amount of $25,000 to the business consultant. Apparently this little piece of advice had worked out quite well for him and the members of his management team. Do this for a while and you will see your effectiveness soar. A great side effect is that people around you are bound to see it too. Some pointers that may help you in this direction: Become more efficient in your communication. This means: on the phone, in emails or letters, and of course in face-to-face conversations. A lot of time spent in communication is very inefficient. This is especially wasteful because you're not just wasting your own time but also somebody else's. Touch everything only once. This can be a really great time-saver. Every piece of information should preferably pass through your hands only once. This goes for mail, email, but also things like certain websites, articles, newspapers and other sources of information. In order to do this successfully you will need to learn how to take decisions quickly. Some decisions just aren't worth too much of your valuable time. The ability to take decisions is the key to becoming successful anyway. So why wouldn't you want to speed that process up a little. The ability to take decisions quickly, especially minor ones, will free up a lot of time that can be spent on more important things. The biggest mistake that "wannabe" E-book publishers make is to first write a book on the subject that they themselves would probably be interested in, and then try to hustle up a market from a related niche and persuade them, without much success, that they too should have the same interests in buying the book. Needless to say, this is not the best introduction into the world of E-book publishing. Research the niche, discover the market and what they want, and then go about the business of putting into words, the information that they will gladly pay their hard earned money for. Step 1 - What Subject Are You Familiar With? Make a list of all the things you could confidently write about. It's much easier, and less like work, to write about a subject in which you already have an interest. Do you have hobbies that others would be interested to hear about? Please don't make the mistake of assuming that because you are knowledgeable about a particular subject, others are sure to know the same. You would be amazed at what some people don't know. Once you have decided on your subject, research the niches where this subject could be turned into profit. Don't be discouraged by the fact that the niche is popular. This could be seen as an advantage. A popular niche is proof that there is already a market, and money to be made. Just be sure that your product is superior to the competition. Step 2 - Find Their Itch And Scratch It! You need to know what their problems are and find out what is missing in their life. The answer to these questions, and others, should be your main line of attack. You need to focus on what they don't have, sometimes you even have to tell them what it is that is missing and why they need it, and when you give it to them. They will reward you financially. Step 3 - Do Your Research. Be prepared when you intend to start writing. Don't sit at your desk one day and then decide that today, here and now, is the time to write your first E-book, IT WON'T WORK or maybe it will, but one thing is for sure, it will be disjointed, facts will be missing and the general flow will not be right! You must first research your subject; collect all the information you possibly can, put it into a specified folder on your PC. And when you feel you have everything together, then you can proceed to bring it all together in an organized manner that is fluent and easy to read. Step 4 - Create Your Masterpiece. Get down to it and start writing. Refer to your folder (the one where you stored all of your researched material), choose from your organized lists and start writing. A tip given by many when it comes to writing, is to start and don't stop. Write down everything that comes into your head, if you try to think at the same time, e.g. "yeah that's a great line bit it doesn't fit just now, I'll save it and use it later" - WRONG! You'll forget it and then get angry because it was exactly what you wanted to say! Get it down in print that you will be editing and correcting at a later date. Do it in bite sized chunks! Or suffer the digestion of writers block. Most importantly, keep it simple. Keep in-mind the average reading age of adults is twelve! So don't write as if you've just devoured two dictionaries and a thesaurus for breakfast. Conversational, everyday language is the key. Step 5 - Check Your Work. Now is the time to re-read and edit your work, check spellings and grammar, read it through several times. If it's hard for you to read, it will be twice as hard for others to read; hopefully you knew what you were trying to say! Pass it on to a member of the family or a good friend, ask them to read it through and give you an unbiased opinion as to weather they understood it, and if not, why not? If necessary, re-write it. After all is said and done, it will be your name hung on to the end of the content for the entire world to see. Step 6 - Bring It To An End. Somewhere along the line you have to decide that your book is finished. There will always be something that crops up later, that little snippet that you regret not having used. Don't worry about it; the main thing is that you have passed on some form of information, no matter how small, to someone who was in search of that information, otherwise they wouldn't have given out their hard earned money to buy it. Article Taking a Chance on Healthy Living! By Kevin Sinclair One of the most important aspects of living a healthy and prosperous life is understanding "risk." By this I mean knowing how to understand and analyze situations in life that affect health. Being able to accurately weigh benefits and risks when making health decisions is very important! Too often decisions are based on incomplete or inaccurate information and this is a huge mistake with significant consequences! Failure to accurately assess risk keeps people locked in all kinds of unhealthy situations including poor eating and exercise habits (lifestyle), relationships and jobs. Sometimes people are just afraid to step out and make a change. They see "risk" in making a change when the REAL risk comes from NOT making a change. From my perspective, living with the stress, unhappiness and frustration of indecision and poor health is the greatest risk of all, and one that is definitely not worth taking! Accessing "risk" is nothing more than collecting information, weighing the alternatives and then making appropriate decisions based on the information. Some risks to our health are more "real" than others. For example, it is common knowledge that obesity is associated with a wide variety of health problems. On the other hand, there are some health risks that are so remote we rarely think about them. On a practical level, eating highly processed foods and avoiding a daily dose of fresh fruits and vegetables is rarely considered serious. But, as too many have already discovered, the long range consequences of this practice are real and devastating. Failure to accurately assess risk limits us in many ways. We imagine the "risk" of talking with our children about drugs, dating or sex and we put off having the "talk," even though the risks of NOT talking are infinitely greater. Fear of flying and public speaking are two more "risks" affecting millions of people. But practically speaking, these fears are unfounded. People ride in cars every day, even though cars are far more dangerous than commercial aircraft! It's a failure to accurately assess risk, and it limits our health, prosperity and pleasure in life. The goods news is that failure to accurately access risk is reversible! The effects of those decisions to eat inappropriately or NOT to exercise are, as the common expression goes, "do-overs." We can effect positive change in our lives by following a few simple steps to accurately access risk: 1. Accurately define your present situation and access your health "risks". Are you eating a healthy diet? Are you getting enough exercise and good quality sleep? What are the consequences if you DON'T change? Weigh the benefits of healthier living vs the potential risks such as increased cost, inconvenience or discomfort. 2. What do you stand to gain if you change your present circumstances? Assess the "up-side" potential. Too often we look only at the "downside" risk and forget the benefits. What good things might happen if you take the risk and win? 3. Limit the "down-side" if you happen to make a wrong decision. Don't continue down a path if it does not produce results. This is especially important when following weight loss programs. If the pounds are not coming off or if the weight loss is only temporary, find a new program! You not only want to lose weight, but want to sustain the weight loss for as long as possible. Take steps to ensure this will happen. Clear, concise, realistic objectives will definitely help. 4. Reduce your risk by being smart! Understand the situation and seek the advice of experts in the field of health and nutrition. This includes finding and forming partnerships to receive support and get good advice. 5. Have a fall-back position. If the decision you make fails to produce the desired results, be prepared to take a long, hard look at the circumstances and be prepared to change what you are doing. Everything in life involves some element of risk. Driving your car, meeting someone new, crossing the street...but we do them every day. Winners in life are willing to accept the risk and continue on their way! Get involved, be smart about how you play the game, come prepared for a few failures along the way, but don't quite.
